Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange data between a website hosting server and a client. As the data exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of controlling a web hosting account. The commands that can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for instance, the alternatives are limited because you simply won't have root access to the server, so you can only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. These are all actions which are carried out inside the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are tons of applications for other OSs, that you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

When you have a shared hosting account with us and you'd like to deal with your content remotely through SSH, you may obtain SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal doesn't provide this feature as standard, you can easily add it with several clicks from the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the Control Panel, you shall see the host, the port number and the username you should use when you connect to the account. You can even pick what password you would like to use, since it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. We have prepared several Help articles in which you can easily find all the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they're used. Furthermore, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to get SSH access to it with simply a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, offered with all accounts. If your plan doesn't support this feature by default, you'll be able to add it easily using the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you will discover the information that you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated anytime, if needed. These login credentials are also essential if you'd like to upload files using a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we offer. A comprehensive list of the commands which you can carry out shall provide you with a better idea of what tasks you can perform within your account and each one is accompanied by a number of instances of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS

You'll be able to use SSH to manage your content no matter which Linux VPS packages you choose when you sign up, since all of our plans offer this function by default. You will not have to include or activate anything manually - the instant your web server is ready and you get the Welcome e-mail with the login credentials, you'll be able to connect and start working on your sites or any software that you want to install and run on the server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be isolated from all the other accounts within the physical hosting server, you'll be able to do anything you need without any restrictions. You may set up any application you need and which will work on a Linux-based web server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases fast and easy.
